Whenever we do blog posts on the BGL Blog we usually like to write about news updates in the world of Same-Sex couples and marriage equality. Mostly because, as lovers of Ketubahs, we love to hear and share anything related to marriage and weddings!
All that to say, when we read about this lesbian couple in Colombia our hearts totally melted! The Colombian government granted full rights to this same-sex couple — one mother was the biological parent, while the other mother was the adoptive parent. Although this news is a more of a post-wedding happy ending, it’s still major strides in the world of same-sex couples… and families! For many same-sex couples, having the ability to get married and be recognized as a couple with rights can already be a feat. So being able to adopt children together and grow your family like any other couple in the world is amazing.
Congratulations to this happy family :) We wish you all an awesome life filled with laughter and love!

A few weeks ago we launched the new Same-Sex Paper Cranes Ketubah (right) — and we definitely were in love! We are doubly excited to announce a new version of this Asian Inspired Ketubah: The Origami Ketubah. Each Ketubah features colorful paper cranes with a simple white background. The gorgeous blend of color, minimal style, and simple layout creates a beautiful blend of tradition and design.

Yup… you read that correctly! A Same-Sex Lord of the Rings Ketubah is available now, and we’re OBSESSED. As huge LOTR fans (as in… midnight showings, dressed in costume, etc.) we don’t think this Ketubah could have come soon enough. And of course, what LOTR scene would you rather be on your Ketubah than Rivendell. That was the height of romance, love and basically everyone melting in their seats among all of the LOTR movies.
Not to ruin the surprise, BUT we’ve heard rumors that TINAK is getting ready to launch another LOTR Inspired Ketubah, so… STAY TUNED! :)

There’s nothing we love more than spreading (and obsessing!) over Ketubahs that contain the perfect blend of gorgeous art and classic tradition. Lately we’ve been really in love with classic Swedish folk art! After all — Swedes really do have a way with designing things that are classically simple, yet still stunning. And although we hate to be cliché, we have to say it: Ikea is the best.
So without much more of an introduction, here are our two Same-Sex Swedish Inspired Ketubahs. We’re totally in love, and we think you’ll be as well! :)

Marking it’s 16th anniversary, Reykjavik, Iceland held yet another LGBT Pride celebration! Although the pride event took place Saturday, August 9th, celebrations continued to take place all around the city from the 5th-10th. Taken from a huffpost article, one Finland resident had this to say about the city’s celebrations:
“It was great… I liked that the whole city was celebrating, not just gay people.”
How awesome! And isn’t that how it should be? A celebration of a freedom given to every human being — the freedom to love and receive love from others! Take a look here to see the whole huffpost article, with photos!

Nothing makes us (Team Bagel!) happier than seeing another marriage ban struck down. This time the victory came in Florida — and in Miami no less. :) This makes Florida the 18th U.S. state to go against prohibition against Same-Sex marriage. Another win for marriage equality — and we couldn’t be more thrilled!
So in honor of this win, we are naming The Miami Skyline Ketubah as our FAVORITE Ketubah of the week. CONGRATS FLORIDA! :)

There’s nothing quite like Mark Rothko’s signature style. His stunning pieces consisted of an abstract modern style, with a particular attention to color. Rothko felt that color was every human’s first interaction with creativity, and by stripping his pieces down to something as simple as color, he truly captured that primal and innocent imagination.
As lovers of modern and unique designs, we love being able to obsess over art — especially if it’s from a fellow Jewish artist, like Rothko! Last Friday a Federal Appeals court ruled that Oklahoma must allow Same-Sex marriage! How AWESOME! According to the HuffPost article this specific court ruling would be “marking the second time it has found the U.S. Constitution protects same-sex marriage”.
This 2-1 ruling came actually after the SAME panel ruled that Utah’s ban on Same-Sex marriage was not Constitutional. Although both of these rulings are on hold for now, this gives huge strides for lower court victories and of course, for Same-Sex couples in both states!
The entire ruling for both states is super surprising, considering how conservative they are — but Congrats to Utah and Oklahoma! This makes all of our team so proud and happy. Proud that our efforts, like many others, are making a difference, even if indirectly! And happy because… well, the option to express your love and devotion shouldn’t be restricted to one part of the population.
And of course, for any Same-Sex Jewish couples that live in Utah and Oklahoma that will finally be able to legally get married — you know who to call! :)

We love all the Same-Sex Ketubahs on our site, but we especially love all of our Artist-Inspired designs! From modern abstract to more traditional styles, there’s definitely a design for every taste. We’d be lying if we said we weren’t partial to the more modern styles — Britto being our absolute favorite. Britto’s signature style has more of a Pop Art feel — tons of color, lots of layers, and everything with an urban twist!
