Legalization of Same-Sex Marriage Could Possibly Fuel Tourism Economy

    by Jordan
    No comments yet

Nothing in the world is better than a good book, a fruity drink, and a beautiful view of the beach — who doesn’t LOVE vacations after all? Especially when it’s with your significant other! Turns out that vacationing and legalization of Same-Sex marriage go more hand-in-hand than we think (I thought that we all just automatically flock to wherever there’s a good mojito…)

Continued legalization of Same-Sex marriage within the United States and worldwide will boost the travel and hospitality industries all around the globe. Wether it’s a honeymoon, destination wedding, or an anniversary trip — Same-Sex couples will truly be fueling the tourism world in a BIG way. Although we make up a small percentage of couples within the U.S., it seems there will be a big impact. The International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA) Foundation stated,

It is going to be an inordinate percentage of the wedding market in the next five to 10 years… Even though we are only maybe 4 or 5 percent of the population, the number of us getting married is probably going to be 20 times that because we couldn’t and now we can…

(Click here to read the full article from Huff Post)

For many of us “waiting” is part of the wedding plans — and not because we WANT to. Although we could jet off to another part of the country, being married in your own home (legally and without issue), is truly a Happily Ever After.

All we can say is — YAYYY!!!! (Pssst… check our Materials Page for travel-friendly Ketubahs!)

And I just thought of something better than vacation… a vacation to celebrate life, equality, and love. :)

    by Jordan
    No comments yet

There’s nothing quite like the gorgeous skyline of your favorite city to fill you with a sense of pride and excitement. Wether it’s your original stomping grounds, a favorite vacation spot, or the place you truly call “home”, a skyline is a beautiful reminder of home no matter where you are! With unique architecture and buildings that reach to the sky, skylines are definitely the “face” of any city.

The Bagel Team is SUPER excited to introduce TINAK’s line of Skyline Ketubahs! Each Ketubah contains a different city skyline — ranging from Chicago and Miami, to Toronto and Montreal these designs are simply to die for. Some skylines are late at night with dazzling city lights, and others are featured at the break of day with a beautiful sun rising behind the city. Of course, as most of the Bagel Team are born-and-raised New Yorkers, we can’t help but love the New York Skyline. (You know what they say — “you can take the boy out of New York…”)

Combat Russia’s Anti-Gay Laws By Eating? Sounds Delicious!

    by Jordan

In honor of good eats, the Olympics, and equality, a local New York eatery has developed an entire menu based around the 2014 Winter Games. Dishes ranging from colorful names (like “Putin’s Poutine”) and colorful flavors (Skittles infused shots), this menu is sure to please your eyes, taste buds, and heart! To get even MORE bang for your buck, The Huffington Post article states that “one dollar from every order of “Putin’s Poutine” will be donated to You Can Play, a national advocacy campaign dedicated to eradicating homophobia in sports.”

If we were giving this restaurant a rating, it would definitely get an: A-MAZINGGGG!!!! As fellow foodies ourselves (Check out The Foodie Ketubah!) and sports enthusiasts, we are ALL OVER this menu — especially the Russian Rainbow Shot… YUM!

Anyone visiting or living in the New York area, we definitely recommend checking out Foley’s N.Y. Pub & Restaurant. Not only is it fighting for equality for all Same-Sex couples (and Gays and Lesbians in general!), but it’s delicious too!

We love mixing of all sorts, and love this new site. We would encourage all of your friends who are in interfaith relationships (and who are hetero) to use it!

    Irene Lopez’ The New Rabbi

    by Jordan
    No comments yet

Here is our favorite Kickstarter Project of the year, so far:

A feature documentary about the liberal American/Israeli Rabbi David Lazar’s journey in the Jewish community of Stockholm.

The New Rabbi documents the story of American/Israeli Rabbi David Lazar. The Jewish-orthodox bible student who became a liberal rabbi and a fighter for feminism, the heterosexual father of five daughters who became a gay-activist and came to marry the first lesbian couple in Israel, in a prison.

Yes: an Israel rabbi that was the first to marry Lesbian couples in Israel. And in Jail, no less.

We just found out about this — and it has already hit the funding goal and closed. If we had known earlier, we would have supported it.

We can’t wait to see Irene Lopez’ documentary! We already want to buy a copy!

Shmuly Yanklowitz: Orthodox Rabbi Supporting Gay Marriage

    by Jordan
    posted in Blog, Ketubah, Ketubahs

Our hearts were warmed to read Shmuly Yanklowitz’s blog post at the Huffington Post. He’s an orthodox rabbi — who supports gay marriage.

    From his article:

“I am coming out of the closet. I am an Orthodox rabbi and an advocate for gay marriage.

The history of the theological issue is complicated, but the moral issue is increasingly clear. Faith leaders must stand as public allies; private support is no longer enough. Fifteen states and counting have formally approved marriage equality. It’s time that traditional faith leaders stand for gay rights, including the right to marriage.

As an Orthodox Jew, I believe the Bible was given by G-d, that Jewish law is binding, and that change in our religious practice cannot happen impetuously. It also means that I take the pervasive biblical call for justice very seriously. I am pro-gay-rights because I am an Orthodox rabbi, not in spite of it.”

If you want an orthodox rabbi to marry you and your (same-sex) partner — we strongly recommend Shmuly Yanklowitz. He’s our new favorite same-sex supporting Rabbi. You go!

New Mexico: Courts Rule Same-Sex Marriage Constitutional

    by Jordan

Right in time for Hanukkah! Another beautiful gift in the form of the right to marry in New Mexico! Now becoming the 17th State to allow Same-Sex marriages within the United States, the New Mexico Supreme Court ruling stated:

…barring individuals from marrying and depriving them of the rights, protections, and responsibilities of civil marriage solely because of their sexual orientation violates the Equal Protection Clause.

All we have to say is: way to go New Mexico! We are SO EXCITED!! Here at Bagel, we always make sure to have a mini celebration each time a new state finally recognizes marriage rights to same-sex couples.

For any of the couples out in New Mexico searching for your perfect Ketubah to go along with the perfect wedding, Contact Us Here!
