As Ketubah lovers and creators, we’re constantly looking for gorgeous works of art from fellow Gay and Lesbian Jewish artists! We recently saw that Artists Yaelle David will be joining Art About – Israeli Worldwide Exhibition, an International Art Show. We love her art pieces for their emphasis on color and her ability to show the beauty in something that is so simple. Yaelle had this to say about her art collection:

The aim of my work is to divert or reshape conventional things in order to offer new colors and depth to traditional “clichés”. I want to make people think about new layers in their daily lives through simple materials. By adding layers and changing contexts, I try to suggest a new point of view”

    We love it!

United States’ Most LGBT-Friendly Cities… and their Ketubahs!

    by Jordan
    No comments yet

The Huffington Post recently posted results of the top ten most LGBT Cities in the U.S. These findings came from Vocativ, which pulled from various social media sites, measuring “most friendly” based on various lifestyle elements such as the overall LGBT community, Pride events, Same-Sex bars, and more. They decided to do this as a “useful and fun guide” for Same-Sex couples for Pride Month! You can click here to read Huffington Post’s full article…

In honor of Pride Month, we wanted to list some of the top cities here… along with their Ketubah counterparts! This list is perfect for the Same-Sex couple looking for something that represents the pride they not only have in themselves and their marriage, but the place they call home as well — wether you it be the place you’re living now or the place you grew up!

    • New York, New York — With many native New Yorkers on our BGL team… we couldn’t help but smile with pride! Coming in number two, we definitely have to recommend one of our absolute favorites, A New York State Of Mind Ketubah.
    • San Francisco, California — As such an iconic city within the LGBT community, we thought San Francisco would have come in first! Although voted number three, San Francisco did come in second for best Cultural Options per capita (Awesome!). The San Francisco Skyline Ketubah makes for the perfect Ketubah to celebrate culture, pride, and love!
    • Chicago, Illinois — Although coming in at number 5, Chicago actually came in number 2 for LGBT-Friendly Businesses per capita! In a red color palette the The Chicago Subway Ketubah is the perfect blend of romance and urban style.

The FIRST Same-Sex Couple Just Got Married In Arkansas!

    by Jordan
    No comments yet

On May 9th Judge Chris Piazza “struck down the state’s voter-approved same-sex marriage“, stating that there was no rational reason Same-Sex couples should be allowed to marry and receive the same rights. The Judge went on to state that their vote was “an unconstitutional attempt to narrow the definition of equality…”. So of course as soon as they possibly coule Dick Titus and Zeek Taylor got married — and so became the FIRST Same-Sex couple to equally wed in Arkansas!!!

And what an amazing couple to be the first — they’ve been together for 42 YEARS (!!!). They described the experience of tying the knot as a “roller coaster ride” and that they didn’t think they’d ever see something like this happen in Arkansas in their lifetime. Although the future of Same-Sex marriage is uncertain, Dick and Zeek will still fight for marriage equality. Read the whole article here!

Hearing happy endings like this definitely make our day at the Bagel Team :) From our team at Bagel Ketubahs to Dick and Zeek — CONGRATULATIONS! We wish you the next 40+ years of happiness, love and joy!

Any Same-Sex Jewish couples in Arkansas? We would LOVE to create something for you that beautifully represents you both and honors the Ketubah tradition!

Idaho Turns Down Ban On Same-Sex Marriage Ban!

    by Jordan
    No comments yet

We LOVE Idaho! A federal judge JUST turned down a Same-Sex marriage ban in Idaho on Tuesday and couples can now start getting married as early as 9AM on Friday!! Judge Candy Dale stated, “Idaho’s Marriage Laws withhold from them a profound and personal choice, one that most can take for granted…” (Read the whole article from NPR here!)

Although Governor Butch Otter is said to be appealing the verdict, we have high hopes that Same-Sex couples will continue to receive the same rights as any couple in the U.S., and that they rightly deserve! We’re so excited for Idaho and although Friday is a few short days away, we would be more than honored to create a Ketubah for some of the first couples to get married (LEGALLY!) in Idaho! :) Congrats to all the future Mr. & Mr.’s and Mrs. & Mrs.’!!! We wish you all a lifetime of excitement, happiness, and most importantly — love.

Team Bagel Wishes You A Happy Pesach!

    by Jordan

Nothing makes us feel more full of pride and tradition than when Passover rolls around. Between all the crazy Ketubah madness that each year brings, sometimes it’s nice to sit back, relax, and enjoy a time of family, food, and tradition. In preparation for the holiday season we decided to have a little office fun and research fun recipes that not only celebrated Passover, but combined a little rainbow flair as well! So far our favorite stumble was the RAINBOW MATZAH made over at the Keshet Office. Take a look at the recipe and pictures here!

Of course seeing this Matzah, only makes us inspired to create more Matzah style Ketubahs (from the team at TINAK)!!! We’re so in the holiday spirit, that we put together a gallery of our FAVORITE Same-Sex Traditional Ketubahs — Take a look here! And again, from our Team at Bagel: We wish you a very happy Pesach!!!

In Honor of the New Season: A Game of Thrones Ketubah?

    by Jordan
    No comments yet

We absolutely adore all the modern style Ketubahs sold on our site, but nothing gets us MORE excited than when a couple asks for something completely out there! (Take a look at TINAK’s Moonlit Fantasy Ketubah) As a self proclaimed nerd myself, I personally love the idea of taking a particular esthetic and integrating it into the Ketubah art and tradition. After all, a Ketubah is meant to represent who you both are as a couple, why NOT have fun with it?!

So what does this have to do with Game of Thrones? For those of you who are totally crazy obsessed fans like our team is (we have weekly conversations about each new episode), then you probably are counting down to Sunday as well — the premier of the newest season!!!!!!

Beyond the show we love the esthetic of the clothes, architecture, and art. So of course, we HAD to start searching for Game of Thrones inspired weddings…

Take a look at the entire Game of Thrones styled wedding shoot here!

For any Same-Sex couples that are fans of Game of Thrones out there, we would be beyond HONORED to create a Game of Thrones inspired Ketubah! I mean, I don’t think there could be anything cooler than getting a Ketubah with the IRON THRONE on it!!!

    Shabbat Shalom!
